Opening Soon | Specialist part-time alternative provision in Stoke Newington | Early enquiries welcome

Praxis Academy is in pre-opening development for September 2026.

Praxis Academy is currently in pre-opening development, with a planned opening from September 2026, subject to relevant approvals, readiness checks and commissioning. The DfE independent school registration application has been submitted and is awaiting approval. Praxis Academy is not currently operating as a registered independent school or a live provision.

Current progress

Praxis Academy is being developed as a specialist therapeutic and academically ambitious provision for pupils in Years 7 to 11 who may be experiencing EBSA, anxiety, autism-related disengagement, SEMH needs, attendance breakdown or placement fragility. At this stage, we are preparing policies, curriculum, and staffing models in advance of opening. We are not yet a live school.

DfE application status

Praxis Academy has submitted its application for DfE independent school registration and is awaiting approval. Registration is a formal process. Until approval is confirmed, all public information, early discussions and planning sessions are framed as pre-opening or future commissioning conversations. We do not describe the provision as an operating registered school at this stage.

Early enquiries

While in the pre-opening stage, we welcome early enquiries from partners:

schools SENCOs inclusion leads headteachers local authorities SEND teams AP and inclusion commissioners Virtual School Heads and teams parents and carers partner organisations

These conversations are for information, relationship-building and future planning only. An enquiry does not create an admission, referral acceptance or confirmed service. Where a pupil is supported by a virtual school or social care, any future discussion would need to involve the relevant statutory and professional partners. We remain in a pre-opening phase until all formal legal requirements are met.

Future pilot conversations

We are exploring a small number of carefully scoped pilot conversations with schools for future cycles. Any proposed pilot, transition or part-time pathway would be considered on a pupil-specific basis and would depend on several factors:

  • suitability. safeguarding information. risk assessment. staffing capacity. premises readiness. commissioning agreement. parental engagement. legal and registration position. the pupil’s current school or local authority arrangements. involvement of relevant statutory or professional partners where required.

No pupil will attend Praxis Academy unless arrangements are safely agreed, appropriately scoped and supported by the relevant safeguarding, commissioning and operational checks.

Preparation steps before opening

Prior to opening, Praxis Academy will continue to finalise and evidence:

  • safeguarding and child protection. safer recruitment. staff training. single central record. curriculum plans. behaviour and relationship systems. attendance procedures. admissions and suitability processes. health and safety. fire safety. premises readiness. complaints and policy publication. data protection. referral and reporting processes. quality assurance and governance arrangements.

This work is part of ensuring that Praxis Academy is safe, well organised and ready to meet the needs of pupils before any placement begins.

Actions not taken at this stage

During this pre-opening stage, Praxis Academy is not:

  • operating as a registered independent school. providing full-time education as a live school. admitting pupils onto roll. confirming placements without the appropriate approval and agreements. presenting early conversations as guaranteed admissions. replacing the statutory responsibilities of a pupil’s current school. acting as a substitute for required statutory decision-making or commissioning.

This page is provided to ensure that schools, families, commissioners and partners understand our current status clearly.
